This is still under construction...

I was born in 1965, to a loving family in the small mining town of Asbestos. As you might have guess from the name, the mining town called Asbestos was indeed all about extracting the mineral Asbestos from the earth, which used to be used as an insulator and fire retardant, although now it is much more commonly associated with health hazards. The town was founded January 7th 1899 when it broke off from the town of Shipton.

I grew up in this town, in a poor catholic family with roots in both the French and the English languages in a bilingual part of Canada called Quebec.

After that I do remember living in a suburb of Montreal called Laval. My father worked for a snow mobile manufacturer, and I remember lots of snow and loads of fun in that snow.

I don't remember much of my youth, except that we appeared to have moved a lot. When I was eight or nine years of age, the family added a third child to the clan and promptly moved to Europe. Christopher, my brother, was merely weeks old as we visited various sites in Switzerland.

We visited some incredible French sites in the region of La Haute Savoi, and in Switzerland around the Lac Leman, at the base of which can be found the famous city of Geneva.

Chateau Chillon As it so happened, the parental units decided to settle about 11 kilometres from Geneva, except on the French side of the lake. The village was called Cinq Chemins (literally, 'Five Roads'). Exactly where it was, is a little fuzzy in my memory. It was between the city of Thonon-Les-Bain and Geneva.

On the left you can see a great photo of the Chateau Chillon, which was directly north-west of where we ended up living, across the lake (about 12km wide at that point). Images such as these would play a large part in the romantic fantasy land my mind would spend most of its time in the future.

I distinctly remember living in an apartment buildings, which was one of a grouping of 6 or 8. The apartments were modern looking, and they which were slightly separated from the main village by a highway.

I also remember going to school everyday, which was across the highway, into the village itself. The school was a two story building. All grades were taught in one room, and the teacher lived in the second story of the house that we called our school.
